Leon

Meaning: Leon comes from the Ancient Greek word “léon” meaning “lion”. From the Christian era onward the Greek form Leon became closely associated with the Latin name Leo, so in many European languages the two are often used almost interchangeably. In the Middle Ages the name was widespread among Jews in England. It is also linked with the fame of the revolutionary Leon Trotsky (1879–1940), whose original name was Лев, the Russian form of Leon. The name has various forms; Léon is its French form, while León is its Spanish form.
